A Visualization to combat the grumpy, icky, I want's

So you are grumpy- the to-do list is long and boring and never ever done. And you have the "I Want"'s- that nagging feeling that you want something but you can't figure out what. Somehow nothing seems easy- like there is just a lot of resistance going on. You feel pretty distant from your creative practice, and you are eating far too much of the wrong things!

If this is you- or if you have known this feeling- try something for a minute. A quick visualization.

Get yourself seated comfortably and let your eyes gently close while you take a couple of deep breaths.

First let yourself really feel the ick of your grump. Get the taste, the texture, the color, feel how it affects your body and take it as far into sensation as you can.

Then take a deep breath and imagine yourself as a white dove- and let yourself fly up into the sky. Ah the peace, the quiet, the lovely space. Take enough time with this to really enjoy the feeling as sensation in your body and as emotional quality.

Then glance at life  for a moment from the distance of a white dove way up in the sky- Looking down at your life, what is missing really? Not what will be the quick fix for the irritating nagging hunger, but the thing that you need to really nourish your soul, the thing that will make you feel settled and grounded in your being such that life has balance?

Ok, I admit- this is my image- and it has been deeply useful. However I am profoundly aware that meditations like this are much more effective if they come from your own imagination. So if the white dove does not work, just let yourself ask for an image and see what comes.

Working with clients I find that there is incredible variety in what the image could be and stunning power in the information gained and transformation possible.

This is because it is a way to tap into the creative unconscious and work with the deeper self, the self that is not encumbered by the machinations of the cognitive mind- that part of the self that is always ready to analyse, categorize and fix. The thinking mind is amazing and skillful and useful for so much, but sometimes it is just in the way!

I have found that by being present and attentive to the immediate feeling, and to not try to change it, but to really listen you are prepared for the wisdom that your own creative unconscious has for you.

So if you were able to do that visualization, and you gained some insight through it, there is another step. You need to figure out real world ways to bring that information into reality.

Let yourself play with what would feel right and then make a commitment to yourself to do these things this week. And remember- don't go overboard- small steps work best. And every day this week give yourself the gift of that lovely sensation of the flying white dove- or whatever your image was if it was different.

Back to you! I would love to hear what images or insights came to you- so leave a comment!

If you would like to try this with a guide, I would be happy to work with you. You can schedule an introductory conversation on my scheduling page.
