How does your art function in the world?
As artists, when we tap into the deeper knowing, we are able to discover and express the deepest and most needful truths. This process is vulnerable. It is also powerful and provides resilience and healing to the entire culture.
It can be hard to maintain focus, belief in ones self, clarity in the context of all that is going on in our human world that is scary at the moment.
As artists, we have such important roles to play in this process.
I do not know all the roles of the creatives, but I know that for me it begins with letting my animal body love what it loves as I feel into being part of the skin of the earth. (thank you Mary Oliver for your Wild Geese poem!)
What would happen if we could really embrace the idea of being part of the ecosystems?
I do not know the answers, and I have only just barely started to articulate the questions for myself.
The thing that gives me hope is that there are so many people in so many fields who are asking similar questions and dreaming into how we might shift our paradigms, mindsets, ways of being.
I want to invite you to my spring workshop so we can
Culturally the arts are often seen as frivolous, relegated to diversion, entertainment and decoration.
As artists we often struggle with an internalized judgment that says that we are not doing real work. Lets untangle those judgements and energize our focus with integrity, honesty and community!

As artists, we have such important roles to play in this process.
- We ask question
- We bring awareness
- We challenge assumptions
- We envision possibilities
- We express healing qualities of being
- We engage paradox,
- We tap into the creative and collective unconscious to express the things that are at the edge of our own learning, growth and healing.

What would happen if we could really embrace the idea of being part of the ecosystems?
- Would we be able to take care of ourselves with more ease because we would be tapped into the same kind of deep knowing of how to live that it seems that all the creatures and plants have?
- Would we make decisions about how much and what to consume based not just on our own desires, but on an awareness of the balance of all things?
- Would we have a greater sense of balance and health in our selves and our communities?
- Would the cancer of our consumer and capitalist greed stop growing?
I do not know the answers, and I have only just barely started to articulate the questions for myself.

- feel into the community of creatives who care
- tap into our connection with the earth and all living things
- realign ourselves with the good of the whole as part of the skin of the earth
- gain a sense of the value of each of our particular creative work
- relish in the diversity of our roles

Cracking the egg
June 5 Thursday 1:30-3:30 pm EDT, 10:30-12:30 PDT, 6:30-8:30 BST early bird $65 after May 31 $85 Why is it so difficult to get your work out into the world? In this workshop we will let go of the harsh internal judgement about yourself in relation to being a professional artist, and feel into what needs to be in place, both internally and externally, before you get out there, why it is important to show your work and when is the right time to get your work out. You will gain a clear sense of where you are in the process, and what your next steps are. This is a zoom workshop. We will be using guided visualization, group dialogue and a bit of writing to access your internal wisdom and deep compassion. |
I loved the atmosphere Val created in this workshop: It was kind, open and energizing – with a lot of humor. This enabled all the participants to connect with the sometimes deep and personal stuff that came up - and to have a great time as a group as well. Her insights are immensely helpful – as well as her powerful meditations and visualizations. That and to be with a group of like-minded people gave me a lot of energy and inspiration.

Val’s workshop was amazing! What a joy to come together with a group of open-hearted creatives. I walked away feeling connected to a community and much more aware of my inner-workings as an artist….with a tangible understanding of how to move forward when I feel stuck.
